Event Description: In fall of 2021, Landmark Conservancy permanently protected the 220-acre Telemark Forest Preserve with support from the community. Skiers use the trails on this property for various Birkie Week ski events including Saturday’s big race called the Slumberland American Birkebeiner! Skiers start at the trailhead in Cable, Wisconsin, ski their way through the forest on the Telemark Forest Preserve and then continue on to glide across Lake Hayward, cross over the American Birkebeiner International Bridge, and head toward the finish line on Hayward’s snow-covered Main Street.
Landmark enjoys being part of the Birkie community and is proud to have protected part of the course route, ensuring this race (that dates back to 1973) will continue for years to come! Stop by Landmark’s booth at the Birkie Expo to learn more about our non-profit organization and the conservation work we are doing in the area!
