Event Description: Volunteer to improve the forest health by spending a spring afternoon outside removing invasive garlic mustard. This is the first workday of three in a series taking place at two properties in the Chippewa Valley – Keil Birch Creek Preserve on the Red Cedar River in Menomonie and the Town of Union Conservancy on the Chippewa River outside of Eau Claire!
Garlic mustard is an invasive plant that crowds out native plants, both through excessive seed production and by secreting a chemical through its roots that suppresses the growth of other species.
It blooms from April to June, so now is the time get it out of our natural areas before it spreads its seeds. Join us for this important and rewarding work and have some springtime fun with other community members!
No previous experience required. Identification and removal techniques will be covered at the beginning.
