Volunteer Workday at the Colfax Red Cedar Preserve & Recreation Area

March 19, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

**Due to rain in the forecast for March 5, this event has been postponed to March 19.**

Event Description:
Join us for this workday at the Colfax Red Cedar Preserve and Recreation Area (CRCPRA), a public preserve for hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, hunting and direct access to the Red Cedar River. To improve wildlife habitat on the property, efforts are ongoing to remove the invasive vegetation that outcompetes native vegetation. Along the hiking trails, we will cut woody invasive plants which involves using loppers to cut the brush and hauling the brush to piles. We will be burning the brush piles, so the fire will keep you warm if the work doesn’t! We will take a break from the work to enjoy a hike to see the Red Cedar River and explore the property.

Location:  Colfax Red Cedar Preserve & Recreation Area

What to bring:  Tools will be provided. Please bring water and sturdy gloves; dress in layers, wear work clothes, and waterproof boots. There will be some uneven and brushy ground.

CRCPRA is located northwest of the Village of Colfax and was recently opened to the public. Previously it was owned by the Dunn County Highway Department and was purchased with Knowles Nelson Stewardship funds and local community donors with the assistance of Landmark Conservancy. It is now owned by the Town of Colfax. A management committee has been formed which thus far has developed trails around the 146-acre property and continued habitat restoration. Your help with improving this beautiful spot to be even more attractive to people and wildlife will be much appreciated.

If you have questions, please reach out to Katie Hahn at katie@landmarkwi.org .
