Employees Give Back to Nature During Service Workdays
Earlier this fall, Landmark Conservancy welcomed employees from both Xcel Energy and WESTconsin Credit Union for workdays to improve habitat and care for trails at three of our preserves in northwest Wisconsin.
At the 590-acre Tyler Forks Community Forest in Mellen, a group cared for the trail system by clearing downed trees, trimming back branches, mowing trails, and scraping new trails.
At both Pine Coulee Nature Preserve in Prescott, as well as Elk Creek Bottoms Preserve in Elk Mound, workdays focused on improving habitat by cutting invasive buckthorn and honeysuckle that have invaded the understory and displaced native plants.
“These workdays are not only a success because we make progress on trails and invasive plant removal, but also because it brings people together to spend time in nature and work towards a common goal. We have fun and it feels good to take action to help steward these unique landscapes. We are so grateful for the help!” Sara Norman, Community Engagement Manager.
This year marked Xcel Energy’s 15th annual “Day of Service” and WESTconsin Credit Union held their first ever “Community Care Day”. In total, 4 workdays were held with Landmark Conservancy, and 71 individuals contributed 229 hours of service! Thank you to Xcel Energy and WESTconsin Credit Union employees for giving their time, energy, and sweat to help steward the land!
