As the summer comes to a close, so do our internships at Landmark. The staff are grateful for the contributions both northern and southern interns make to our organization and wish them all the best on their next chapter. Read more about their summers with Landmark Conservancy below!

Landmark’s northern intern was supported by funding from local donors who believe in the importance of fostering the next generation of land stewards. Since 2015, our summer stewardship internship has given a young professional a range of experiences related to land management and community engagement.

During her time with us, Clara spent much of her time outdoors putting her navigation and forestry skills to good use. She could often be found monitoring conservation easement properties, maintaining trails on Landmark properties including Tyler Forks Community Forest and the Brownstone Trail, removing and controlling invasive plants at the Lincoln Community Forest and along the Brownstone Trail, collecting ecological data on Landmark properties, working with volunteers, and attending events.

She also worked with volunteers and attended a few events including the Northwest Wisconsin Lakes Conference. After her internship, Clara will continue her education at Michigan Technological University with a focus on wildlife management. Thank you, Clara!

Landmark’s southern intern was hired by the Alliance of  Dunn County  Conservation and Sports Clubs, a fantastic partner based in our “hometown” of Menomonie. This annual internship is structured to give the intern a diverse range of experiences by working with a variety of Alliance member-groups and conservation agencies, including Landmark Conservancy.

During his time with us, Caden monitored conservation easements, removed invasive species to restore rare prairie habitat, and even got to hold a fledgling peregrine falcon during banding operations with the Department of Natural Resources! With a wealth of new experiences spanning non-profit, state, and federal agencies, we are excited to see which path Caden chooses for his career post-graduation from Hamline University. Thank you for a great summer, Caden!
