When Landmark Conservancy’s Community Outreach Coordinator Sara Norman approached Lucette Brewing Company last summer about brewing a special beer to support the Devil’s Punchbowl Preserve, owner Tim Schletty was eager to entertain the idea.

“We don’t normally do donations like this, but conserving land and unique places is pretty important,” said Schletty. “Being able to be out in parks in Wisconsin during the pandemic has been remarkable…. And places like the Punchbowl are rare.”

Schletty and Lucette’s brewmaster Christian Thompson immediately saw the opportunity to support Landmark through brewing a special beer as a chance to collaborate with another local brewery as well. They approached Ryan Verdon of Brewery Nonic and the brewers worked together to develop the recipe.

“It’s pretty easy to get brewers to collaborate on things and always a lot of fun – even more so if it’s for a good cause,” said Verdon.

The Devil’s Punchbowl beer will be a Hazy India Pale Ale with soft, herbaceous flavor notes.

“When I think Punchbowl, I think fruity,” said Thompson. “Tropical notes of mango, papaya – fruit forward and juice forward, less bitterness forward.

Both Lucette and Nonic are brewing versions of the recipe. Lucette’s brew will be canned and distributed regionally for a limited time, and both beers will be available on tap beginning April 1.
